Set Overview

Lumiose City, on the Card

Nihil Zero is the first Japanese set of 2026, released January 23, and the most directly connected to Pokémon Legends: Z-A of any expansion in the MEGA Series. Where earlier sets referenced the game loosely through returning Mega Evolutions, Nihil Zero is steeped in its world — Lumiose City as a setting, its characters as Trainers, its themes woven into the card design. The set name itself is a reference to Mega Zygarde's signature move, Nihil Light (Japanese: 無に帰す光), meaning "Light that Returns to Nothing." The set code MZ doubles as a nod to both Team MZ and Mega Zygarde from the game. That level of intentional naming is a good indicator of how tightly this set was designed around its source material.

Featured Mega Pokémon

Mega Zygarde Makes Its TCG Debut

Mega Zygarde ex is the headline card and the set's reason for being. This is its first-ever appearance in the Pokémon TCG — a Fighting-type Mega Evolution with massive HP and two attacks that reward commitment. Its signature Nihil Zero attack hits all opposing Pokémon with a coin flip for 150 damage each — devastating when it connects, fittingly dramatic for the card's thematic weight. Mega Gallade ex appears alongside it, with a promo Mega Gallade (068/M-P) released as a companion product.

The supporting cast ties strongly to the Legends: Z-A world. Meowth ex brings a useful Trump Card Catch Ability for pulling Supporters from the deck. Decidueye ex adds competitive depth. Non-ex Barbaracle is worth knowing about — its Stone Arms Ability attaches Fighting Energy from hand, making it a key support piece for Mega Zygarde builds. The Trainer cards lean heavily into the game's cast, with characters from Legends: Z-A making their TCG debuts alongside returning favourites.

What Collectors Should Know

The Cards That Matter

Mega Zygarde ex MUR (#117) and Mega Zygarde ex SAR (#113) anchor the chase pool. As a TCG debut card with deep ties to the Legends: Z-A storyline, the MUR in particular has long-term collector significance — it marks the first time this Pokémon has appeared in any premium rarity. Praying Urbain SAR is a notable Supporter pull for collectors following the game's characters. Decidueye ex SAR and Meowth ex SAR add further depth. Community-confirmed box guarantees of 3 Art Rares, 4 ex cards, and at least 1 SAR or SR per box make the opening experience consistent.

Nihil Zero's English equivalent is Perfect Order, set for March 27, 2026, which combines this set with the subsequent M4 Ninja Spinner expansion. The Japanese printing is the pure Nihil Zero experience — 117 cards, tightly focused on Zygarde and the Legends: Z-A narrative, without the dilution of a combined English release.
