Set Overview

The Set That Needed No Introduction

Inferno X is the second standard expansion of the MEGA Series, released September 26, 2025 — less than two months after the dual M1 launch. Where Mega Brave and Mega Symphonia had to establish an entire new era, Inferno X arrived with the mechanics already understood and the hype already built. Its job was simpler: deliver the single most anticipated card of the entire MEGA Series. Mega Charizard X ex. It delivered.

This is a single-set release rather than a dual launch, with a Fire and Darkness type focus that gives it a tonally distinct identity within the MEGA era. At 116 cards (80 main plus 36 secret rares), it's a larger set than either M1, with a deeper secret rare pool and more room for the set to develop its own character beyond the headline Mega.

Charizard X Takes Centre Stage

Mega Charizard X ex is the card the entire MEGA era was building toward. The iconic Fire/Dragon Mega form from Gen 6 is one of the most recognisable designs in the franchise, and its TCG return was previewed at the 2025 World Championships closing ceremony before the set was even officially revealed. The card's signature attack, Inferno X, discards Energy for massive scaling damage — a high-risk, high-reward playstyle that fits the Mega mechanic's identity perfectly.

Beyond Charizard, the set features Mega Heracross ex and Mega Sharpedo ex, along with notable ex cards including Oricorio ex (whose Ability requires a Fire Mega in play to function — a clever piece of mechanical integration), Mismagius ex, and Rotom ex. The Trainer lineup introduces Grimsley's Gambit, marking Grimsley's return to the TCG, plus the Firebreather Supporter and Heat Burner Item card. The supporting cast is strong enough that the set has a competitive and collector identity beyond its headline Mega.

What Collectors Should Know

The Cards That Matter

The Mega Charizard X ex MUR is the set's defining chase card and one of the most sought-after pulls of the entire MEGA Series. Charizard's pricing history across every era of the TCG speaks for itself — this card carries extreme collector demand. The Mega Charizard X ex SAR sits just below it, with the Full Art SR also commanding attention. Grimsley's Gambit SAR and Mega Heracross ex SAR offer depth beneath the Charizard ceiling.

Inferno X's English equivalent is the Phantasmal Flames set, released November 14, 2025. This is a set where the Japanese version's collector premium is particularly pronounced — Charizard chase cards in Japanese printings have historically outperformed their English counterparts over time, and the tighter 116-card pool means better odds per box.
