Set Overview

The Series Returns to Where It Began

Gem Pack Vol. 5 is the fifth release in the Simplified Chinese exclusive Gem Pack series, arriving in mainland China on 24 April 2026. Where Vol. 4 was the structural breakthrough - the set where the format finally clicked into place - Vol. 5 is the narrative one. It carries Vol. 4's refined architecture forward unchanged and uses it to do something Vol. 4 wasn't trying to: return the series to where it began. The official tagline 乘风破浪,寻梦逐宝 - loosely, "ride the wind, break the waves, chase dreams, seek treasures" - reaches directly back to the sea voyage at the heart of Pokémon Horizons, and signals where the set's identity sits.

At 196 cards across an expected 18 packs per box, with pull rates confirmed identical to Vol. 4, the underlying structure is unchanged. The all-holographic format and symbol-based rarity system continue. What's new isn't structural - it's the four exclusive art illustration cards anchoring the set, and the deliberate way they reach back to Vol. 1's opening four. This is the set that closes a fifteen-month bracket the series opened with its debut.

The Return

The Crew, Evolved

Vol. 1 launched the series in January 2025 with four exclusive cards pairing each Pokémon Horizons trainer with their first-stage Paldea partner - Liko with Sprigatito, Roy with Fuecoco, Dot with Quaxly, and Captain Pikachu alongside Friede. Those four cards weren't just exclusives. They were the visual identity of the series debut and the strongest argument for what made a Simplified Chinese release worth collecting in the first place.

Fifteen months later, Vol. 5 brings the same crew back, evolved. Floragato now stands with Liko, Crocalor with Roy, and Quaxwell with Dot. Captain Pikachu and Friede return unchanged - the constant that frames the trio of evolutions around it. Four different illustrators handle the four cards: Keita Hagiwara on Captain Pikachu and Friede, Lyu YiFei on Floragato and Liko, Kouki Yanagihara on Crocalor and Roy, and Rei Yamazaki on Quaxwell and Dot. It's the Vol. 1 approach refined - multiple artists, distinct treatments, a single narrative thread holding the set together.

Standout Artwork

Rei Yamazaki, Then and Now

Of the four illustrators on Vol. 5's exclusives, only Rei Yamazaki returns from Vol. 1. She drew Quaxly alongside Dot for the series debut, and returns fifteen months later to draw Quaxwell with the same trainer. The continuity is deliberate. For collectors building a Horizons run across the Gem Pack series, the Vol. 1 and Vol. 5 Yamazaki cards work as a paired before-and-after - the same artist, the same trainer, the same Pokémon evolved. A direct visual record of where the series has been and where it has arrived.

Beyond the four Simplified Chinese exclusives, the Triple Rare tier is filled out with twenty-four additional full art illustrations - one for every Pokémon in the roster. Known illustrators on the broader pool include GIDORA on Hisuian Growlithe, Shinji Kanda on Magneton, REND on both Chimecho and Vivillon, and miki kudo on Spheal. The complete 28-card premium tier is what makes Vol. 5, like Vol. 4 before it, a release where every triple-star pull is a genuine payoff card.

What Collectors Should Know

Where Vol. 5 Sits in the Series

The Gem Pack series has followed a clear arc across five volumes. Vol. 1 introduced the format. Vol. 2 experimented with V/VMAX mechanics and an overcrowded rarity structure, still at 15 packs per box. Vol. 3 expanded to 18 packs, refined the aesthetic with its nocturnal theme, and introduced EX cards - but left the top tier diluted by Energies and an inconsistent 07 slot. Vol. 4 fixed those problems and produced the cleanest set in the series. Vol. 5 inherits Vol. 4's structure unchanged and uses the now-stable format to deliver something its predecessor wasn't designed to: a narrative bookend with the series debut.

For collectors entering Gem Pack for the first time, Vol. 5 holds up as a starting point - it carries forward every structural decision Vol. 4 got right. For those who have been collecting since the beginning, it's the closing bracket on a fifteen-month arc that started with the same crew, the same illustrator on one of the four exclusive cards, and the same series finding its identity in real time. A deliberate matched pair, fifteen months apart.
